- Lighthouse Missions | Impacting Lives in Gqeberha and Beyond
Lighthouse Missions is the outreach ministry of Lighthouse Family Church in Gqeberha. Engaging local and global communities through service, support, and the Gospel. REACHING OUR CITY AND BEYOND At Lighthouse, our vision is to impact our city and beyond with the Kingdom of God. Missions, both local and global, form a key part of this calling. Over the years, we have partnered with ministries that serve the most vulnerable in our city, where the need is significant. More recently, we have also built relationships with churches and ministries in remote areas, where support is just as vital. LIGHTHOUSE MISSIONS IMPACTING OUR CITY AND BEYOND WITH THE KINGDOM OF GOD LOCAL PARTNERS The UBOMI OBUTSHA CENTRE , based in Kwazakhele and led by Mark Lawler, serves poor and vulnerable families in the local community. Through its Family Focus programe, the centre offers a range of practical support initiatives aimed at strengthening families and meeting real needs. Learn More GUGU'S HOMEWORK CLUB , also known as Hands On Homework Club, is an education support programe in Walmer Township led by Gugu Matiwana. The programme provides guided, tutor-led support to schoolchildren in the area, helping them grow in confidence and improve their academic performance. MHLALI'S HOUSE , led by Megan Lindstrom, also known as Mihlali Children’s Haven, is a place of safety in Gqeberha that cares for vulnerable children aged 0 to 3. “Mihlali” means joy in isiXhosa, and the heart of the home is to provide a safe, family environment where each child’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are nurtured until they can move into their forever families. JEANNIE'S SOUP KITCHEN , led by Jeannie Edwards, operates in Extension 6 near Malabar and has been serving the community for over 20 years. With a simple vision to feed the hungry, Jeannie and her team provide five meals each week to hundreds of people in need. They trust God to provide what is needed to continue serving this community. PILOT MY FUTURE , led by Debbie Hemmens and focuses on mentoring and education. The ministry equips children, young adults, and adults with practical, preventative strategies that empower them to build a safer and more secure future. Learn More VICTORY PLAYHOUSE , led by Elizabeth Hempel, is located in Parsons Vlei/Malabar. The ministry serves children from disadvantaged families who were forcibly removed from private land in Hunters Retreat. Victory Playhouse provides a safe, uplifting environment, offering hope and support to children from challenging backgrounds. Learn More SCRIPTURE UNION operates through a relational and sustainable model, equipping mission partners to reach children and young people with the Gospel. They focus on people already present in schools, churches, and communities to create lasting impact. Their approach follows a simple framework: GATHER, GROW, and GO. They identify and connect with people, equip and develop them, and then support them as they engage and guide young people in their faith journey. Learn More HOMELESS OUTREACH , led by Petro Mocke has been serving the Newton Park community for the past two years. Once a week, the ministry provides sandwiches to homeless adults and children, spending time with them, praying, and sharing the Word when appropriate. Through love, food, and medical care, many are drawn closer to God. On Thursday mornings, children attend a literacy class at the church, where they also learn about the Lord. During breaks, they enjoy the play area and receive food and treats. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS GERALD NZEVE is involved in church planting in a rural community outside Harare. He focuses on discipleship and reaching his community for Christ through creative initiatives, including sports ministry and Discovery Bible Study. GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS involve maintaining regular contact with pastors and ministries in some of the most unreached regions of the world. Through these connections, we support their work and help advance the Gospel in areas where access to the Word and discipleship is limited. APOSTOLIC PARTNERSHIPS Apostolic Partnerships focus on working alongside local churches to support their growth and advance God’s Kingdom. Much of this work is done through our connection with Immerse, a network of churches committed to spiritual growth and the fulfilment of God’s Kingdom on earth. We provide ongoing support to two dedicated pastors, Vuyisile Fulmeni and Zola Moses, as they serve their communities. HAVE QUESTIONS? Have another question? We’d love to connect with you and help in any way we can. Ask Us What happens if my child is shy or doesn’t want to participate? We aim to include everyone at some level. If a child doesn’t want to play the game, they can help be a judge or hold some apparatus so that they feel included in a way they are comfortable. If they really don’t want to they can spectate. We don’t force children to do anything in our programmes – this is not school. What if my child struggles with anxiety or separation? Parents are welcome to stay with their children until the child feels comfortable. We do encourage parents to get back into church as soon as possible, we will call you from the auditorium should your child need reassuring. What if my child says they don’t like it? Our leaders will have a conversation with the child and possibly the parents as well in order to find out what the child doesn’t enjoy, explain why we do those things and accommodate the child as much as possible. Sometimes kids have great ideas! How can I continue this at home? The children in Grade 1-7 are bringing home their promise passports every week. Please encourage them to sit either alone or with you for 15 minutes and listen for God’s voice together. Our younger children (1year old to grade 3) bring home a craft which will give you the opportunity to engage with your child about the lesson. If you would like more information on what we learn each week, please contact Kim. MEET OUR CHILDREN'S PASTOR KIM ANDERSON grew up in Pinelands, Cape Town. After school she studied beauty therapy.
